First Night Austin 2009
Austin City Hall Front Entrance
Buford Tower

The attendees of First Night Austin 2009 wereinvited to do an Interactive light painting of their own at
Buford Tower. The Interactive Light Painting System consists of 8 par 36 light fixtures mounted on a
truss system above our heads. These lights shine on sensors mounted in a strip which lies on the
ground. When we interrupt one of the light beams The Synth-A-Beam ® Interactive Control System
triggers another light fixture to shine on Buford Tower. These lights change colors and the more light
beams we interrupt the more LED lights we shine on the tower. Sounds are also triggered when we
interrupt the light beams, giving us the ability to create music with light. New Years Eve we had bell
sounds programmed and everyone had a blast ! We even played jingle bells! The possibilities are
limited only by our imaginations!
Control: Synth A Beam ® Interactive Control System and Par 36 lights focused on sensors.
Lighting: Various Led lighting fixtures / effects triggered by the Synth-A-Beam® Interactive Control
System
Note: The Synth-A-Beam ® Interactive Control System was developed by Richard in 1995 and has
been used by Rerformers, Artist's, Science Centers and Amusement Parks around the world.
The Synth-A-Beams are featured in Richards Musical Stage Show Light Wizards

We Painted the front exterior of Austin City Hall with color changing LED light fixtures. The Light
fixtures were programed with lighting software to slowly change color throughout the evening. At the
stroke of Midnight these lights flashed wildly bringing in the New Year with a burst of Eco Friendly
Energy! The entire installation uses less energy than three 100 watt light bulbs, yet it is still very colorful
and bright.
12 LED RGB light fixtures (IP 65 rated),
Each Fixture contains 36 x 1 watt LEDS, 12 red, 12 green 12 Blue @ .2 amps max power each
Control: Programming via Elation Compulive Lighting software, DMX 512 Control signal
